Industrial 3D Scanning & Reverse Engineering
Even if all you have is the physical part, it can become a 3D file you can edit.
FORMFTY MANUFACTURE — a FORMFTY HUB company
FORMFTY MANUFACTURE does industrial 3D scanning and reverse engineering in Taipei, Taiwan, turning existing parts, old products or handmade models into 3D data delivered as an STL mesh or rebuilt as an editable CAD model. It's the starting point when the original drawings are gone, when you're revising a design, making an accessory that has to fit, or checking finished part dimensions. The factory has 3 articulated-arm 3D scanners and 2 2.5D vision measuring machines.

When to use it
- No original drawings
- An old part is discontinued or the files are lost, and it needs to be made again.
- Redesign
- Changing the form or structure of an existing product, using it as the base.
- Accessories and fixtures
- Housings, brackets or jigs that fit the shape of a real object.
- Dimensional inspection
- Comparing a finished part against its design data.
What we deliver
- Mesh file (STL)
- For viewing, comparison, or 3D printing directly. It's made of a huge number of triangles, so it can't be used as-is to change the design or cut a mold.
- Editable CAD (STEP, etc.)
- Rebuilt as a model you can edit in design software. Quoted to your requirements.
After the scan
Scan data can go straight to MORE DESIGN for redesign, and FORMFTY MANUFACTURE then prints prototypes to check it. Medical imaging (DICOM) can also be turned into 3D models; the Fu Jen Catholic University bronchoscopy training model started from image data.
When you ask, please include
- The object

- Purpose
- Remaking, redesign, accessories or inspection.
- Accuracy
- The accuracy you need, and whether you need editable CAD.
Confidentiality, quality and response time
- Confidentiality
- We can sign an NDA before we look at your files. Confidential projects are handled by a dedicated person and shipped under a code name.
- Quality
- ISO 9001 quality management system. Parts that don't meet spec are remade, guaranteed.
- Response
- Inquiries get a first reply within 6 working hours (Taiwan time, GMT+8).
- Formal quote

Questions we often get
- Can you remake an old part that has no drawings?
- Yes. We scan it to capture the shape, then rebuild it as a 3D model. If you plan to change the design or make a mold later, we recommend rebuilding it as editable CAD.
- Can I edit the scan file directly?
- A scan gives you an STL mesh, which is good for viewing, comparison and printing. For redesign, tooling or CNC machining it needs to be rebuilt as STEP or other editable CAD, quoted to your requirements.
- The object is too big to ship. What can we do?
- Tell us its size and material, and whether it can be shipped or needs an on-site visit, and we'll arrange it accordingly.
- Can medical images be converted into 3D models?
- DICOM images can be converted into 3D models. The Fu Jen Catholic University bronchoscopy training model was modeled starting from image data.
- Will my scanned parts be kept confidential?
- We can sign an NDA before we look at your files. Confidential projects are handled by a dedicated person and shipped under a code name.
Tell us what you want to make. We will handle the rest.
